Pete Brand is back for a second appearance on the Agency Journey podcast. Pete initially came on the podcast in episode 146 to talk about his agency, MINDSCAPE, and their data and analytics-driven approach to marketing and servicing clients.
In this episode, Pete shares his personal story and lessons learned about dealing with the stress that comes with agency ownership, plus practical steps to approach and overcome your anxiety.
For Pete, hiking and getting outdoors has been the meditative environment needed to maintain a healthy balance. He’s shared his experiences on his podcast, Hike Your Own Hike: An Entrepreneur’s Journey.

As entrepreneurs, owners, and ordinary humans, we’ve all experienced anxiety to varying degrees. Learning to address our anxious thoughts healthily is critical for our well-being.
Towards the end of our interview, Pete shares a simple one-page worksheet that he’s put together to help address anxious thoughts through these 5 simple questions:
- What is the challenge?
- What thought is driving the anxiety?
- Is it reasonable that the anxiety-causing outcome is imminent?
- What can be done to prevent that negative outcome?
- What preventative or proactive action can be taken in the next 24 hours?
By writing down his answers to these simple questions, Pete is able to convert anxious thoughts into a clear, written action plan.
